StorySetting: 18th Dynasty, Reign of Pharaoh Tutankhamun The dark days have finally passed; the reign of the defiler, the Heretic King, Akhenaten, has ended. Just as night must give way to day, the dawn at the beginning days of the reign of Pharaoh Tutankhaten marks a renewal. In order to renew ourselves, we must cleanse ourselves of pollution, the pollution wrought by the wicked Heretic. At the wise suggestion of his courtiers, Tutankhaten changed his name to Tutankhamun in honor of the great Amun-Ra, the god whose supremacy was temporarily usurped by the insignificant Aten. Names alone, however, are insufficient to reassure the people of our kingdom. The people, having endured the tyranny of Pharaoh's predecessor may need some convincing about Pharaoh's intentions. Pharaoh Tutankhamun, far from being of age and seriously lacking the experience needed of the great leader, is in dire need of guidance, lest we risk an even further decline of our kingdom. And so it is with great urgency that Pharaoh's enigmatic yet nonetheless capable advisors, Ay and Horemheb, have urged a campaign of restoration - restoration of the rightful place of the ancient gods so that they may favor us once more. Since it would be most unwise for us to rule from the forsaken city of Akhetaten, both the court and the Priests of Amun, long persecuted by the Heretic, have suggested that the capital be returned to Waset, home of Pharaoh's illustrious ancestors. Waset, as you shall see, is but a shadow of its former greatness, left neglected while the wicked Heretic devised his evil machinations in his mockery of a sacred capital. The sun shall rise over this city once again. And when the sun does rise over Waset, its rays shall gleam far beyond the city's reaches and spread across all the Kingdom! The mission is clear - we must not only prove ourselves to the people, but also to the gods themselves! As a trusted confidant of Pharaoh's advisors, you are to carry out the necessary tasks to bring us back to the path of greatness and prosperity.
