Story

Some strange rumors have reached Caesar; apparently a large Carthaginian army under the leadership of Hannibal is on its way to Rome. Now, of course it is ridiculous to believe that anyone attempts to cross the Alps with a whole army of elephants, but Caesar doesn't want to take any chances.

If Hannibal really attempts to cross the Alps, there are only a few passes suited for his passage. One of the passes is on the eastern side of the Alps and you are send over there to prepare the defenses.

As it is very unlikely that Hannibal will use this pass, you will only get limited funds to set up the defenses. As you will find out natives densely populate the valley and they don't like the Romans that much. The natives inhabit the meadowland on the hilltops and if you want to settle here you should live in the forest along the river.

The rumors that Rome is under attack have also reached the natives and they felt that it is the perfect opportunity to finally kick the Romans out of their country. As you are being very close to them and the symbol of Roman oppression, they will start by crushing you!

Of course, you don't want to bother Caesar with your problems; he has more important matters to take care of. And if he starts requesting local produce or military assistance from you, you don't complain although you really need to spend all your money on defenses.

All in all, your mission is simple; you are out there on your own; try to survive as long as you can.

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

  • Culture Rating 100
  • Save in December AD9 at the latest.
  • WC1: longest survival time

  • WC2: number of cavalry, according to your military advisor

  • WC3: Amount of money in treasury

The valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:

  1. Highest favor rating
  2. Largest number of plaza tiles
  3. Largest amount of money in treasury

The second and third criteria will be used in case of a tie only.
Please indicate with your save how many plaza tiles you have deleted to help speed up scoring.

Designer's Notes

After the first year, you may expect invasions. The number of invasions per year is between one and three. Furthermore, you can expect requests from Caesar for local produce, like pottery, furniture, weapons, clay, timber, grain and he will ask you to send troops to some areas in distress. Complying will bring you an increase in Favor. No need to tell you what happens if you don't comply ;)

You are not allowed to send gifts to Caesar.

The differences between the hard and the easy map are the initial funds (higher for easy), size of the invasions (bigger on the hard map) and the amount of land the natives occupy on the map (larger on the hard map)

Dangerous Passage was created by Henrium, and beta tested by joshofet and Emperor Jay

This contest ends Friday October 31, at 11PM, EDT
