Contest 29: Graduation

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 29: Graduation. This is a Caesar 3 contest, and should only be played with the latest version of Caesar 3 (version 1.0.1.0). This c3 contest is for players who have never competed (submitted a saved game) in a c3 contest at CBC before. No matter what your skill level this is the chance for you to join in. There is only one difficulty level map and it is set at easy level. Make sure your level is set at easy before loading this contest map.

Use the link below to download the starting position:

Graduation Easy
file is in zip format

After downloading, PC players should open the archive with a suitable programme (e.g. Winzip), and then extract the contents to the directory in which which C3.exe is located (by default C:\Sierra\Caesar3). Macintosh players, for whom the procedure of installing contest files is a little more complicated, can find detailed instructions here. If you have any problems, please ask in the Forum.

Competitors are reminded that the normal CBC General Rules apply to this contest. Competitors are also advised to peruse the list of Caesar3 Game Features.

Remember to save your game every December. These annual saves should not be submitted with your entry, but must be made available if requested.

Please make sure you play the game from the start at the correct level of difficulty. Select Options, Difficulty and check it. If necessary adjust the difficulty, select new game and reselect Graduation saved game. Now you can play.

Story

"Now that you have finished at the Academy you are ready to graduate and enter the real life contest of governorship. This is your opportunity to see if what you have learned can be applied in your very own province. See if you are better than the others from the academy who are also going out to their provinces.

I have selected a very fertile province with plenty of goods available. There are also many trade opportunities with other provinces. There are a few natives in the area but I'm sure you can educate them and maybe make some money from them too. You should have no problem making this a prosperous, highly populated province.

Make sure you reach a certain level of culture and keep me happy. Do not be in debt when your eight years are up. This province is your reward for all the hard work you have done at the Academy.

Conqueror this assignment and you will have better opportunities later."

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

Completion Criteria

These are the things that you need to do in order to submit a valid entry for this contest.

  • Culture of 40 or higher
  • Favor of 40 or higher
  • Not to be in debt in Jan 8 A.D.
  • Save your game in Jan 8 A.D.

That's all. Everything else can be whatever you want to build and however you want to build and develop your province as long as the above are met. The peace rating has been set at 100 just to make sure than you cannot achieve victory before Jan 8 AD. Ignore the peace rating requirement in the game.

Winning Criteria

  1. Prosperity Score
  2. Population

The second Winning Criteria will only be used if there are
2 players with the same prosperity ranking.

For example these 4 players would be ranked like this:

1st: Prosperity 56 Population 3875
2nd: Prosperity 49 Population 4400
3rd: Prosperity 49 Population 4100
4th: Prosperity 26 Population 10000

Please save your game each December and keep those saves in case the judges want to check any of them out at the end of the contest. This is not very often used but is a good habit to get into. If you miss a save and do it in Jan that's fine for this newcomers contest. We want you to enjoy the contest, not get hung up on too many
little things.

Designer's Notes

If you have any questions, please e-mail the organizers and they will decide if the answer needs to go on the forum. Please do not post anything on the forum which indicates any score you may have reached. At the completion of the contest there will be a thread in which you can post about how you achieved your score and what you did etc.

Please send your entries in well before the deadline as then someone can check your entry and make sure it is valid. If you have sent it in early enough, then you will have time to fix it up if necessary. It's better to send in an entry a day before the contest closes than an hour before. You can send as many entries in as you like or wait till you think you've got your best score and just send in one.

Graduation was designed and created by Caesar Clifford and was beta tested by DillonBlake and Kach.

This contest will close at 11 PM EST (US), on Friday, May 30th. Please note the date!!!!
