Procedure for extracting files-

The zip file will contain a number of files (this can vary depending on the scenario). Firstly, the file with the extension C4s should be extracted to the directory Saved Games in your C4 installation

      (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Saved Games).

The remaining files should be extracted to the directory Scenarios

      (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Scenarios).

You start the save from the Main Menu in C4, selecting "Load Save." The save "'Iceni Queen Easy" or "Iceni Queen Hard" or "Iceni Queen Novice" or "Iceni Queen Insane" should appear in the list. It is not necessary to alter game difficulty.

Story:

Paulinus Suetonius had recently assumed command of the Roman Legions in Britannia. In an attempt to quell the ever increasing unrest it was decided to remove what he believed to be the central force behind the revolts, the Druid island of Mona. Upon advancing towards this island his men froze, hysterically afraid of the screeching priestesses and the war-like priests. Not to be denied his victory Paulinus Suetonius exhorted his men and they crossed the small body of water and destroyed the island, inhabitants, religious groves, and all. While Suetonius was employed in making his arrangements to secure the island, he received intelligence that Britannia had revolted, and that the whole province was up in arms.

Prasutagus, the late king of the Icenians, in the course of a long reign had amassed considerable wealth. By his will he left the whole to his two daughters and the emperor in equal shares, conceiving, by that stroke of policy, that he should provide at once for the tranquility of his kingdom and his family. This was not to be. His wife and daughters were treated abominably and his other relations were forced into slavery. The Icenians decided that these atrocities were unbearable and raised an army in secret with Boudicca, the wife of the late Prasutagus as their queen and leader. As news of the fall of the island of Mona trickled in, several other neighboring states joined this revolt and with this massive Briton army, Boudicca established herself in a camp in Londinium, to attempt to avenge herself and her people against the Romans.

Your job, governor, as Boudicca's staunchest ally, is to help her secure the city of Londinium and continue her battles against the ever encroaching Romans. Will you be successful?

Winning Criteria (All Difficulties):
1. First month when the five trade routes in Britannia have been opened (earliest wins).

2. Points score, totalled as follows (highest wins):

1 point for each point of (favor + security + culture + prosperity) on completion. Maximum 400 points.
1 point for each item of luxury goods (wine, utensils, furniture) as reported by the resource advisor at the start of December 63AD. No maximum.

3. Denarii in the city treasury as reported on completion (highest wins)

In the case of WC1 a message is displayed and recorded in the message log when all five trade routes in Britannia have been opened. All winning criteria are recorded by the script so that they can be recovered by the contest designers. The values that the script records shall determine all scores. (Note that the number of luxury goods, as reported by the resource advisor and counted by the script, only includes goods that happen to be in factories, warehouses or trade ports - it does not include goods in markets or in the process of delivery by cartpushers.)

Designer's Notes

The contest lasts 94 months.

A victory screen will appear when all completion criteria have been met at any point from the start of December 63AD. When this occurs, you should select Keep Playing and save your game. Note that for a save to be valid, the Victory Screen must have been displayed.

A defeat screen will appear if any of the defeat events listed above occur. If this happens, you should revert to a recent saved game and correct the circumstance that caused defeat.

Not all buildings will be available at the start, but will unlock as certain significant events happen.

All trade routes on the Empire Map may only be opened by the script when certain conditions are met. When this happens a message will be displayed, and the trade depot may then be placed.

During the initial part of the scenario, the governor's salary may not be changed, and gifts may not be sent to Caesar. When such things are allowed, the relevant buttons will be enabled.

Iceni Queen will be maintaining the time-honored tradition of requiring players to keep saves for December of each year. The scenario will issue a message each December to remind players to make their save. Only the final (completed) save is to be submitted, however. The contest designers may ask to see any or all of your December saves before validating your final save (but this would generally only be necessary if your submitted save exhibited any unusual characteristics that merited further investigation). *Once your save has been validated you do not need to keep these saves, unless they are used as a basis for generating further submissions.*

As this is a military scenario, the use of aqueducts as a defensive measure is not permitted (#13 on this list (http://www.citybuildingcontests.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=891)). Other than (of course) those actions that generate a "You cheated" message, all other bugs and exploits are permitted. This includes 2. tax/wage manipulation (the second #16  on this list (http://www.citybuildingcontests.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=891)) at any level, although the contest has been designed such that there is limited advantage to be gained from this strategy.

Novice Difficulty
This contest includes a novice difficulty level to attract new or inexperienced players to our contests. It particularly aimed at those who normally play Caesar 4 on 'Easy' level and/or feel they would benefit from a small amount of private assistance. Players may play novice difficulty only if:

o They have never placed in the top five in a CBC Caesar 4 Easy or Hard difficulty contest, and
o They have never earned a medal or placed in top 3 in Caesar 4 online, and
o They have never won a CBC Caesar 4 Novice difficulty contest.
Players in Novice difficulty will be permitted to obtain strategy assistance from the contest designer, but only on the CBC or French (Caesar IV) private message forums.

German language files have been added to the uploads as of 14 June, You may participate on the German forum as well.

Insane Difficulty

This contest includes an "Insane" difficulty level, one that is set significantly harder than the hard difficulty version, where mere completion is an achievement itself. Any player can submit a competitive entry at this level and still compete at either the hard, easy or novice difficulty levels. There is one exception however: the top three winners on the Insane level will have their entries on other levels declared as "non-competitive". In other words, the top three winners of the insane difficulty level cannot win the contest at any other level.

There will be a prize for the winner of Insane difficulty only.

Strategy Forum
This contest will have a strategy thread, started by the contest designers when the contest starts. Players in easy or novice difficulty may discuss strategy or ask strategy related questions in this thread but may not divulge their scores. It should be borne in mind that some players may not be prepared to share their strategies. Players entering hard difficulty are not permitted to post in this thread. The thread will be carefully moderated by the contest designers (including the design director, who is Queen); they will remove posts not considered to be in the interests of the event.

Players in Novice difficulty will be permitted to obtain strategy assistance from the contest designer, but only on the CBC private message forum.

Very new players MAY be teamed up with veteran CBC and C4 players via private messaging ONLY at designers discretion. If this occurs ALL private messages between these players must be copied to one of the designers.

Iceni Queen was designed by Aramann, Hieronymus and Goonsquad, and tested by all three, but mostly by the wonderful and amazing Cathy.

Special thanks go to Schwartzhorse for the French translation of the XML files and to AndreasHauffe for the German translation.

Hieronymus and aramann would like to assure all players that no sheep were harmed during the production of this contest.

When forwarding entries to CBC, only the C4s file of the final save is required, not the other files.
This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday August 31st, 2008. Please note the date!

This contest has ended.
