Contest 123: Aisle of Plenty (a Caesar 4 Speed Contest)Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 123: Aisle of Plenty.
This is a Caesar 4 contest, and should only be played with Caesar 4 with
the latest patch. Check the Sierra
site for the latest version. Use the links below to download the starting
positions: Aisle of Plenty (Hard Difficulty)
Aisle
of Plenty (French Language files) Procedure for extracting files- The zip file will contain a number of files (this can vary depending on the scenario). Firstly, the file with the extension C4s should be extracted to the directory Saved Games in your C4 installation (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Save Games). The remaining files should be extracted to the directory Scenarios (default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Scenarios). You start the save from the Main Menu in C4, selecting Load Save. The save Aisle of Plenty Easy or Aisle of Plenty Hard or Aisle of Plenty Novice should appear in the list. It is not necessary to alter game difficulty. Story:Far, far back in the mists of time, during the long and hallowed reign of Emperor Caesar III, great store was placed upon worship of the god Neptune. Regions that deified Neptune were blessed with great wealth and bounteous trade. It is said that some regions worshipped the god of the sea with such devotion, and for such a long period, that his effect can still be felt, despite his fall from favour in the eyes of Romans in these latter times. I am sending you to a region where, back in ancient times, Neptune was worshipped to a greater extent than anywhere else in history. This area has every possible resource in great abundance and immense trade possibilities. Traveling clergymen who have passed through this area report that the presence of the ancient sea god is still very powerful, and that this area promises untold riches even today. Perhaps these stories are fanciful, but if there are riches to be made, I want to be a part of it. You must go to the region and establish a small city. It is said that the benefits that exist here may be lost if too large a population is present, so you must keep your settlement fairly moderate in size. I expect the immense wealth of this area to be returned to Rome forthwith. There is one problem. Where there are riches, there are bound to be enemies who covet them. You should not worry, though, as any unwanted visitors are sure to be seeking only a share of your wealth, not the heads of your citizens. RulesCompletion Criteria- (minimum) Novice Difficulty 55 Favor, 55 Prosperity, 55 Culture, 55 Security. Easy Difficulty 70 Favor, 70 Prosperity, 70 Culture, 70 Security. Hard Difficulty 90 Favor, 90 Prosperity, 90 Culture, 90 Security. Defeat Events Debt in excess of 2000dn
Winning criteria are applied in the order shown. That is, WC2 is only
used if WC1 produces a tie, and WC3 is only used if both WC1 and WC2 produce
ties. Designer's NotesA defeat screen will appear if any of the defeat events listed above occur. If this happens, you should revert to a recent saved game and correct the circumstance that caused defeat. Invasions occur in easy and hard difficulties but not novice difficulty. All invasions can be bought off, although buy off prices might be expected to be in line with expected city income. Players wishing to use a tax/wage manipulation strategy may only do so in hard difficulty. Tax/wage manipulation means changing tax/wage rates just before the end of each month and back just after the start of each month in order to receive more taxes/pay less wages. This is different to lowering wages/raising taxes as a result of improved happiness. The latter may be done in any difficulty. Novice Difficulty As a trial for this contest only, a novice difficulty has been included
to attract new or inexperienced players to our contests. Players who may
play novice difficulty- Strategy Forum This contest will have a strategy thread, started by the designer when the contest starts. Players in easy or novice difficulty may discuss strategy or ask strategy related questions in this thread but may not divulge their scores. It should be borne in mind that some players may not be prepared to share their strategies. Players entering hard difficulty are not permitted to post in this thread. The thread will be carefully moderated by the contest designer (who is King) and who will remove posts not considered to be in the interests of the event. Aisle of Plenty was designed by goonsquad and tested by Joshofet and JuliaSet. Joshofet is permitted to enter the contest at hard difficulty only.
When forwarding entries to CBC, only the C4s file of the final save is
required, not the other files. This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday January 20th, 2008. Please note the date!!!! This contest has ended.
