Contest 35: Exile-Team Contest: Introduction

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 35: Exile. This is a Cleopatra Team contest and should be played with Cleopatra V2.1. Use the link below to download the starting position:

Exile- Team Contest (Normal Difficulty)
file is in zip format

After downloading, players should unzip it and place the save file in your family name directory. To play, start the game, go to your family, and select "Load saved game". You will find Exile Contest as a saved game. Before you start playing check the difficulty setting; it should be normal. If necessary adjust the difficulty, select load game and reselect "Exile Contest". Now you can play. As this is a special type of competition a number of special rules apply. So, read everything very carefully.

Exile-Team Contest: The Story

Although you had accomplished a good overall rating, it wasn't enough to let the Pharaoh pardon you. So, the Guards destroyed Timna completely in search of you. They assumed they had killed you in the process.

Luckily, you and your friends could escape the guards. Now, you will return to the city and you will get a second chance to build a city and try to regain the confidence of the Pharaoh Ahmose.
You will see there is not much left of your city and even some of the gold ore has been taken away. Your personal savings have also diminished, but it should suffice.
The military campaign of Pharaoh Ahmose will last at least for another 8 years. After that, he might have enough time to deal with you because he hasn't forgotten you! So, until then you should try to maximize all the ratings of your city and hope this will please the pharaoh enough to let you live.

Exile-Team Contest: Contest Rules

In order to have a valid entry the following Completion Criteria have to be met:
CC1: City must not be in debt
CC2: People should at least love you
CC3: You must save the game in December 1548 (the countdown will say 1 month remaining)
CC4: IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE WAGE SETTING at any time; it must remain 30.

Then the score for the map will be established by adding up all ratings, thus kingdom rating + cultural rating + prosperity rating + monument rating; for this map the maximum is 344 points. Furthermore you can earn 20 bonus points for every city you have conquered, this will be established by counting the number of cities that have changed to Egyptian during the game. There is a maximum of 5 cities you can conquer, thus 100 points to be gained. So, in total 444 points can be earned.

Scoring:
To calculate the final team score the following maths have to be done:

1. The score of each team member for the audition map is established: a1, a2, a3, a4, etc.
2. The score of each team member for the contest map is established; c1, c2, c3, c4, etc.
3. The average score for the Audition map (A) and for the contest map (C) for all participants of all teams will be calculated and these two figures give the scoring ratio between both maps; R = C/A. This factor is needed to compensate for the difference in difficulty and time between the two maps.
4. The end-score for each player is calculated with this formula: (R*a + 2*c) / 3 (rounded down).
In this way the Audition map score contributes for one third in the final score and the contest map for two thirds.
5. Then the individuals scores for all team players are added and divided by the number of members to give the Team score (again rounded down).

An example; the average score for all players in the audition map was 150, because of the good team work in all the teams the average score in the contest was 300, thus the Ratio is 2.
Team Ahmose has 5 members and their results are:
audition contest end-score
John 210 335 360
James 176 330 337
Sue 153 302 303
Sarah 117 230 231
Paul 40 290 220
Team score: 290

In case a player drops out during the competition his/her audition map score will be used to calculate the contest score. The fictional contest score will be R*a. So, if we look at the example and lets say Sarah drops out. Based on her audition map and the Ratio her fictional contest score will be 2*117 = 234.

If two teams end on the same score, the score of the best player will be subtracted and a new team-score will be calculated. This will continue until we have a winner!. In this way the best team is rewarded, not the team with the strongest individuals.

So, if Team Rammeses also has a score of 290 points and their best player has a score of 400, the new scores for these teams would be: Ahmose 272 and Rammeses 262; making Ahmose the winner of these two.

Note that the scores from the Audition map will be made public after the Contest map has been closed. This to prevent some clever calculators from strategically withdrawing and improving the team-score in that way.

Special rules:

During the Contest Map the normal rules for Cleopatra competitions at CBC comply.
There is only one exception, during the Contest, as it is a team competition, you are allowed to discuss the scenario with your team members. However, there are some rules as to what is allowed. So read the next rules carefully:

ALL communication, that is game related, must take place through the private team forum, that has been provided by CBC. So, it is not allowed to discuss the contest by e-mail, phone, chat rooms, meetings, other forums, etc. The reason for this is that we want to award a prize for the best team and we need to have the means to judge your teamwork (we will be monitoring the team forums). Furthermore not all teams may have the same opportunities here, due to different time zones, and we want to have a level playing field. So, only discuss the game on your own team forum!

It is not allowed to share saved games, maps of the city/landscape (e.g.. Drawings, excel files) and screen shots of the Exile Audition and Contest maps.

It is allowed to share general information on housing evolution, housing blocks, industry, gods, culture, entertainment, favor, ratings, military etc. You can also refer to general available information that can be found on discussion forums / threads, fan sites, etc. You may exchange all specific contest data like trading options, events and their consequences and you may indicate the presence of certain resources on the map (just say something like: you can find some copper ore between the rocks on the eastern side of the map near the lake; just don't illustrate this with some screen shots of the contest map!). So, in general almost anything is allowed as long as it doesn't make it possible to exactly duplicate each others map!

If you are in doubt or unsure whether something is allowed, please contact the contest designers through e-mail and ask them. We will try to respond within 24 hours, so it shouldn't hamper the progress of your team.

If you have any technical questions / problems with the map, you can use the general thread on the CBC forum.

Exile-Team Contest: Designers' Advice

Since the Pharaoh is still very angry with you, your Kingdom Rating is very low and every year in November it will drop further (just a reminder for your December-save). Fulfilling some of the requests, will raise your KR, but this doesn't apply to all requests. If your Kingdom Rating drops to zero, the pharaoh sends a giant army to arrest you; you better not try this !!

Some of the requests will be for troops. If you fulfill them and win the battle, you will have conquered the city and turned it into an Egyptian city. Since this pleases the pharaoh a lot, you will get 20 bonus points added to your score for every city you conquer. In total you could be getting 5 requests for troops (note that some only appear after you have fulfilled a prior request), so in total you can earn 100 bonus points

Giving the situation you won't be surprised to find that the Pharaoh didn't give you any money nor is there a bail-out in case you run into debt. You will have to use your own savings to get established in Timna, as well as trading and gold mining

Your brother is the village elder of Abedju and he is willing to help you. He will offer you some money as a loan, which you have to pay back (with interest!) but it might help you getting started.

Timna is in the middle of the desert and not very attractive for immigrants. So, in order to get people to your city you should not tax them and pay them fair wages. Therefore, IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE WAGE SETTING at any time; it must remain 30. Mind you, the kingdom wages may vary due to your actions and thus influence the peoples opinion of you.

This contest should be saved in December 1548 BC. Remember to save your game every December as usual. The Kingdom Rating Drop in November is a reminder for you. The annual saves don't have to be submitted when you enter your final save. They should only be made available upon request from the jury.

All players are advised to peruse the remainder of the contest pages (links to which can be found at the foot of the page), as well as the General Rules and Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features.
Exile was created by Henrium and was beta-tested by Taelia and Oregon Taz.
