Mist...

Abana hat also maximal 35.000 Punkte.

Congratulations to We Can Work It Out, who despite having such an unfortunate team name, as it turns out, managed to win the team event quite handsomely. Quite clearly you have the best team, all of your players turned up and from all accounts put in quite adequate efforts, some even bordering on good, and being the only team on which this happened, you do deserve your victory.

On the other hand, on an individual basis (and in the immortal words of Penrith Panthers Rugby League coach Matt Elliott), you got your pants pulled down, your bums smacked, and whatever it is you do after that.

I am greatly impressed by Inka's ability to predict my score well before it was announced. This despite not even discovering the strategy that was used to obtain it. And also despite being a million miles out in predicting the scores of Abana, Tridean and The Governator. Like Andreas, I don't believe in coincidences.

Hi Goonsquad,

You’re right. It’s an amazing thing (and very annoying too) we missed the trick with the kablooyed ports.
In fact we discovered this strategy at the end of April and Roland developed it to such perfection that I informed Hieronymus and he was forced to create a patch to prevent us from playing with 8 open trading routes in November 321. It’s clearly our fault we didn’t considered to use this trick in its now reduced version.
On the other side I’m grateful we didn’t discovered this trick at the end of the contest. With Riva being buried under piles of real-life business, Tobing being to wise to risk his young marriage, Caipirinha struggling with private trouble and Roland preparing for his summer vacation it would have been no fun, to start all over.
My deepest respect for your team, who managed this task quite bravely.

As you might have noticed reading our forum (though Google translation is really awful and I marvel at your ability to get a clue, what we were posting) we have a lot of fun in making predictions. It’s no wonder even some of our countless predictions turned out to be true.

Here are two predictions I made when the contest was still running and even Caipirinha was still working on her submission:

Quote:

Translation:
Strawberry Fields could be good for some little surprise. Besides Goonsquad and Schwartzhorse they have more unknown players, but for sure none of our competitors will reckon with Tobing and Caipirinha also. Also I think Goonsquad and Schwartzhorse will have complemented one another beautifully.

Nach dieser Rechnung hätte 8 days a week nur einen Spieler in den Top10, was zugegebenermassen sehr unwahrscheinlich ist...
Oh, ich liebe diese völlig haltlosen Spekulationen!
Translation:
I award the 6 available places in the Top 10 to Dalan (of course), Goonsquad and Schwartzhorse (very likely), ADJB and Grotewittebeer (likely) and the last one to Trium (this is more female logic – I like his posts in the forum…) edit: and I'm still very proud of this one
According to this calculation 8 Days a Week would have only one player in the Top10 – admittedly this is very unlikely…
I just love this complete groundless speculations.

With beginning of the Oscar Nights we learned about missing the kablooyed ports and we started to develop “worse-case-scenarios” to find out, if we still have a chance to win.
Andreas (who is right in this stuff most of the time) calculated the “kablooyed-effect” to be 500.000 Dn. In Insane that would be 6.000 point. So I simply added 6.000 point to Andreas score to get a clue about a possible High-Score. And of course I used “rounded” numbers (sorry, I can’t find the correct English expression for this).

After you have claimed to know all members in the Top 10 my first “worse-case-scenario” was 60.000 points for the three of you being in the Top 10 and 30.000 points for the three others (whom I guessed to be behind Tobing) Needless to say, you would have won with these scores.

After your score was announced we still were not sure which team will win. If each of the unknown scores of Strawberry Fields would have been 31.173 points, (unlikely but possible) your team would have been in front of us.

So please don’t be grumpy.
Steve never revealed your score to us.
It would have ruined all the fun

If we had stumbled on the kablooey tactic (that is the 6-route kablooey tactic, which now seems so obvious I doin't know how we missed it so long) a little earlier we would have done a bit better with it. Trium had the ability to beat even Dalan in this event, which would have been quite remarkable, but as you know completed 80% of his final entry in the last 24 hours. We all got just one run through with the tactic. and perhaps none of us really used its full potential.

Trium is renowned in C3 for being able to produce a "perfect" entry, and the two games aren't that different. However, the more complex the task, the harder it is to do this, and while we did derive a lot from his observations as he began to hit his stride, so too did we need to gently push him forward in the mission. So really, the three of us complemented each other well. The remainder of our team, well Abana tried hard in the last week but had left things too late, Tridean's wife left him and Governator was invisible. So we quite knew we could not win as a team, pretty much throughout.

It was no doubt a mistake to say in a public forum that I think I know the remaining occupants of the top 10, but apart from gerhardc for pantavit, i was right. (We did not have the luxury of being able to meet in a private forum, being from all over). Not that hard to pick, though, when your own team has 3 of the remaining places. For this reason Pantavit's claim of a top 10 position (for this is precisely how it reads in English with the punctuation used) remaining unmoderated affected only our team (and hence it really should not have been left there in my opinion), it might have affected yours but you could seemingly tell from the phrasing what he was meaning to say...or maybe you knew more about him than us....anyway you did "work this out"\ and were able to have a little bit of jollity at my/our expense.

Sorry, goonsquad, but I don't understand, why you are complaining that you find out the kablooey tactic too late. Our team didn't play this tactic and nevertheless we have won. Also I want to advise you that I finished only one run. But I would never say that with a second run I would have beaten Trium and goonsquad and with a third one also Dalan. It is not of interest what would happened if I would have finished a second and third run. I finished only one and you, Trium and Dalan have beaten the score of this run. This is the fact and nothing else.

That pantavit can not be in the Top Ten was obvious. And it was not only obvious for German native speakers. Part of pantavits first post in the discussion and result thread was a screenshot which shows also his score in december 325. This score was 1.653.870 dn. Starting from this basis I estimated a finishing result of - in the worst case from our point of view - around 2.4 Million denarii. Latest after the score of Riva was published, it was obvious that pantavit is - in the best case - in the ranking on eleven.

It is not of interest what would happened if I would have finished a second and third run. I finished only one and you, Trium and Dalan have beaten the score of this run. This is the fact and nothing else.
Not complaining, just saying the way it happen for us. If I were to complain it would be that the teams were not even to start with, but having run two team contests now I understand how difficult it is to achieve this.

I saw this screenshot and looked carefully at it. However when I looked at it the year could not be made out, there was a jumble of text there, maybe the image was "shopped" at some stage, I don't know. I could see that he had walls by this time so it was after walls became enabled, it still seemed quite possible that he had made enough points to make the Top 10. However, I did not go so far to check my own score at the time walls were enabled, to work out what sort of score he might have made. We knew we could not win, there was no reason to do this.

Be it as it is, it has been a great contest, and a great scenario. Special thanks to the makers of this!

Andreas - this scenario had so many possibilities that no matter how well you play it you always feel that you can do more and I think it's natural to speculate as to what might have been. I certainly wasn't satisfied with my entry - not because it wasn't a good entry but because while playing it I became aware of all the things I could/should be doing to make it better (but lacked the time to implement them).

But you are quite right, of course. We all had our chances and made what we could. I feel proud of our team's achievements, but in the end it was a team contest. The contest was not won by the team with the best player (nor even by the team with the second, third and fifth-best players ). It was won, as it should be, by the best team. Babelfish gives me a very confused view of what has been going on in your team forum, but you've clearly pulled together very well with commitment from all team members.

Congratulations on a very well-deserved victory. We'll get you next time

Congratulations on your impressive score. It is not so easy to beat me - at least I hope so.

You are an excellent C3 player. And so it is not such a big surprise that you are an excellent C4 player. I am very glad that there will participate another player who had the potential to win. But also I am a little bit afraid. In the past, it was sufficient to beat Dalan to win the contest. But in future contests it will be necessary to beat you also.

Nevertheless, you can be sure, I will enjoy the fights with you like I enjoy the fights with Dalan.

I'd like to see this team go up against an invitation team. Dalan has earnt the right to be captain of the invitation team, of course. I get the feeling this team did not have to extend themselves to win, hence individual scores that in the main are not all that inspiring considering the ability of the players as against players on the other teams. What is needed is an opponent that will really put out a challenge and make this team produce that bit extra, as other teams did this time. That would be quite some event.

For now, we have other contests and for some, a little well deserved rest.

Maybe in the future, someone will create a special event for the Playing gods. We just dont have something ready.

@Ally and Steve:
Even if you had hoped I’m getting short of weird singing couples - here’s my Team-Contest tribute to both of you:

Sorry the clip is so long – but even after the song is done, all seem to have so much fun they just don’t stop playing…

Ritchie Blackmore- this fellow's band Deep Purple had a huge hit (in this country at least) with Kentucky Woman when I was just a wee youngster in short pants, and what a thing of wonder that still is. The fellow was quite some axeman even back then. He sure don't look like he's approaching 70 in this clip, even if it is a few years old.

Andreas - don't worry, we're working on it. To beat the Germans is now the goal in life

Inka - happy holidays!

Tut mir ehrlich leid.
