Counting Beans (Con't)

Housing

Up to this point we know we need at least 166 workers for industry. To house these people, we need worker housing. We are not going to build slums, but this isn't going to be Park Avenue either. We are going to build standard no-frills, small casa housing. They get bread and water, readin' and writin', and the movies. That's it. This is the block I plan to use:

Since we are only providing minimal services, there is some extra space available on the other side of the roads. We have filled those in with housing. An extra fountain has been placed in the middle. This block, when developed to small casa level will hold 1190 people. Since about 40% of the population are workers, we'll get about 480 out of this block. This is not free. We need workers to support the block as follows:

One farm will, in a northern climate, feed 160 people. We will have 1190 folks so that means about 8 farms.

The farms are all some distance away from the housing block, so we will have to have two granaries - one accepting, one getting. Also needed are engineers to keep the farms from falling down.

So between the farms, and the block itself, here is what we need:

We are going to need at least 335 workers. Since workers constitute about 40% of the population, we will need around 800 folks. Our block will hold 1190, so we've got it made.

With industry up and running, this city's off to a good start.
