CBC 2007 Players Choice

Link to Voting Form

CBC will be once again running the Players Choice award for 2007. This gives players the opportunity to vote for their favourite contest that ran during the past year. The vote will be administered by Aramann and myself.

The Player's Choice will go online in the coming days and players will have approximately 4 weeks to vote.

Money Bags started very close to the end of 2007 and will be included next year. Other current/recently ended contests (Aisle of Plenty and The Navy Lark) will be eligible.

Rules/Procedures

1. As happened last year, a form will be prepared in Word and players will be asked to select their favourite three contests from the list. Alternatively, for players who do not have Word 2003 or later, they may vote on a txt document (made in Notepad or similar text editing program). Players may, if they wish vote for only a first choice or only a first and second choice.

2. Each first vote receives 3 points, each 2nd vote receives 2 points, and each 3rd vote receives 1 point.

3. Designers may not vote for contests they designed, but testers may vote for contests they tested.

4. To be eligible to vote, players must have either entered one or more of the eligible contests, tested one or more of the eligible contests, or designed one or more of the eligible contests (but note rule 3 above). You do not need to have entered a contest in order to vote for it.

5. Aramann and myself are eligible to vote, but only up until the time the first vote from anyone other than us is received on the upload utility.

6. The CBC 2007 Players Choice will be the contest with the highest score. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the contest with the most players submitting valid entries.

If there are any I've missed, I hope someone will let me know.

Caesar Clifford 01-03-2008 07:54 PM

Did we really only have 3 C3 contests in a whole year ? . Amazing. I only played in two of that list that I can recall so its going to be easy for me to choose.

goonsquad 01-03-2008 07:58 PM

C3 took a back seat when C4 contests started, and after the Imperial Assessment series. Expect more this year with the design competition maps to get a run. The Battle of Sarmizegetusa ran over December/January but was included in the 2006 vote (and was in fact the winner).

goonsquad 01-06-2008 03:34 AM

The voting is now open. A link to the voting form has been added to the first post of this thread.

Lokki 01-06-2008 11:46 AM

Oh where is Azeem's A Daughter of Kings? It was started in mid Dec 2006 but the contest ended in Feb 2007. :kitty4:
Did we have a chance to vote for it in 2006? :new-year-1:

goonsquad 01-06-2008 01:21 PM

Lokki, A Daughter of Kings was included in the 2006 vote, and you even voted for it!

Lokki 01-06-2008 01:29 PM

I did? :madviking: I guess I forgot all about that since it ended this year. Oh well, I have another favourite no problem. :chocolatebunny:
Thanks Goonsquad :)

Lokki 01-06-2008 02:07 PM

Voting was a pleasant 'task' and it's done now. For me one was above others but it was more difficult to choose the other two. :award_4: GO Favourite GO! :strong:

schwartzhorse 01-06-2008 02:58 PM

When we vote for the 1 ° times, how we send it ? by mail , MP ?

aramann 01-06-2008 03:00 PM

Save and upload your file here: http://citybuildingcontests.net/upload/
Enter it just like a contest submission!
Thanks for voting!

schwartzhorse 01-06-2008 03:02 PM

Ok thanks :)

schwartzhorse 01-06-2008 03:16 PM

we must rename the file for sending it !!!

schwartzhorse 01-06-2008 03:46 PM

I rename it : " cbcchoiceplayers" :)
Sorry but I didn't think to add my password ( like for the contests )

Do not forget to vote for your favorite 2007 contest. The Winning designer gets a chocolate bunny! :chocolatebunny:

submit your vote either by PM to us or like you submit a saved game. What we need is the best three contests listed in order.

There are very few votes! C'mon guys!
Gloria

Herodotus 01-19-2008 01:38 PM

I submitted a vote, but it was very difficult to make a choice. :nerd:
I hope you can read it. I don't have Word on this PC and had to do it in Open Office.
An emailed round robin might prod a few people?

Of the competitions listed I have only played some of the C4 ones. Although I have very much enjoyed these I would rather not vote because I can only assess the games I have played and feel its unfair on all the designers for all the other games to cast my vote without even seeing there work.

Caesar Clifford 01-19-2008 06:24 PM

Okay just done mine. :)

While checking though the contests to see which ones I entered I see that contest 114 and contest 113 have the same results which are for 113. There are no results for number 114. Hope they are not lost.:crying:

Caesar Clifford 01-19-2008 06:26 PM

ADJB, I only played in 3 contests [ and designed one ] during this past year too so only voted for those 3 as my choices. So please vote just based on what contests you are happy that you know enough about. It doesn't matter if someone only played one contest and votes for that contest.

goonsquad 01-19-2008 07:55 PM

ADJB, it is about what is your favourite, nothing more and nothing less. Most of our players only play certain games. We are trying to find out what was the most popular contest of 2007, not which was technically the best.

JuliaSet 01-19-2008 10:41 PM

Thanks for finding this. I think I fixed it CC.:zoom2: They are not lost... just not found.:tn_squirrel_1024::a15:

Although this shouldn't be taken as a vote I would like to make a comment about No 110- Silk Purse (team contest) (C4, gs, Jul 1).

I greatly enjoyed this scenario because of the team aspect and as I think Aramann will attest the possibility of learning about all aspects of the game from nothing as explained by more seasoned players is invaluable if your learning the game.

For that reason I would ask if developers could consider other team contests in any of the games. Having the chance to learn a game I don't play or improve my knowledge in a game I do would be more than enough incentive to load the game up and start playing it.

kach 01-20-2008 01:25 PM

I noticed that there are no results for contests 99 to 102 either (library/first 100 contests).

Hello.. guess I didn't upload the page late last night. I'd been moving some contests to the 100 contest page. I hope its ok now.

LOL Guess we are working in the same groove... :idea:I'm just not as quick as I'd like to be.

Julia

All of us here at CBC just adore your leisureliness JuliaSet.

JuliaSet 01-23-2008 11:07 AM

Only 18 votes for players choice! Anyone else play with us in 2007? :pifight:

Vectorgod 01-24-2008 10:09 AM

Come on, even a part-timer lurker like me got a vote in! Yes, that's a challenge. I haven't had much time for contests over the past year, but I did at least download and try all of the C3 contests. I think I only entered one if memory serves--so sad! Hope everyone is doing well!

DillonBlake 01-24-2008 08:46 PM

I sent a survey in a couple of days ago. Did it get there?

goonsquad 01-25-2008 06:19 AM

Both your form and that of Kach have been located.... in the upload area for the Scenario Design Contest. I will repost them in the correct place so that Aramann (who is my co-counter) can see them as well.

Not sure how many players have voted, but it is definitely more than last year.

I have moved the lost votes so Araman can find them. They are in the players choice folder.

aramann 01-31-2008 07:25 AM

Come on players! Let's get some more votes in!

Caesar Clifford 02-02-2008 03:28 PM

Just a note to say the results for 113 and 114 are the wrong way round. I see I did play 114 as well but finished last [ my usual position ] so I won't change my entry for this contest.

goonsquad 02-04-2008 03:20 PM

The link in the library page for 113 (Meadow Lark) still points to the results for 114 (Battle of Salamis). You can get to the Meadow Lark result from the forum thread, though.

Voting in the Players Choice has now closed and Aramann and myself are busily counting. Watch here to see how your favourite fared.

I will post a full table shortly. I'm suitably humbled by the results. Not surprising that C4 should have done well, as its still fairly new.

Players entered is the number of players who submitted a valid entry, not counting designer and tester/s. This shows the popularity of team contests, since Silk Purse ran quite early in the year, which put it at a disadvantage.

kach 02-10-2008 11:49 PM

:emot-bravo: Congrats, goonsquad. It was a good contest. :emot-bravo:

Caesar Clifford 02-11-2008 12:07 AM

Congratulations, goonsquad. You deserve this with all the hard work you put into learning the editor.

I am very happy with where Passage finished too, showing c3 is still a favorite with players. I think blessings already has 10-11 players entered. But thats a very good contest too.

Hieronymus 02-11-2008 01:59 AM

Many congratulations goonsquad!!! As someone who knows only too well what a dreadful beast the C4 editor is, that is a tremendous achievement, and one of which you can be justly proud. :go-team:

goonsquad 02-11-2008 02:50 AM

From the comments of some of the players, it was the team contest concept that proved popular. This is why we're looking at having another one this year.

JuliaSet deserves some mention for her tireless work in the team contest, as does Boudica who has moved on in recent times, but she will be back.

I'd like to see the team contest become a regular CBC event. The format suits C3 and C4 well, and there has been a successful Pharoah team contest as well. Not sure how well suited to it the other games are, though.

Lokki 02-11-2008 03:36 AM

Congratulations, Goonsquad! :emot-bravo: You have made several excellent and entertaining contests, and I am sure we all are going to have many many more to play and have fun. Thank you again! :)

schwartzhorse 02-11-2008 10:59 AM

I am very happy to see that my 2 favorites are in the top 3 :yeah2:

:worship-1: and many thanks to all the conceptors for their work :goodjob2:
