The Story

The city of Baki, once a Nubian fortress, has been conquered by Egypt quite some time ago. Now the Nubians have regained their former power and they are rebelling. They have dealt the city a severe blow, but have not been able to destroy it completely. The soldiers and the population have fled, and all that remains is one empty archer fort and only one lonely temple to Seth. Baki is for the taking, the Nubians are powerful enough, and they are very much interested in the large copper reserves the area holds.

Pharaoh is gathering a large force to provide a proper defense for the strategically positioned city, but it will take a while before he has mustered his army and reaches the spot. Can you hold the city for the time being? Resources are slim, the area is dangerous, and don't think the Nubians will lay low. There are a few cities that will trade with you and sell you the basic needs of a city in return for the local richess, weapons and jewelry.

As I said, Baki is defenseless, and your only hope is a miracle. Well, word has it a miracle will occur, and you should also pray to the gods to help you accomplish this difficult mission. The Nubians will not only attack Baki, but also other cities in the neighbourhood. It is really imperative they fail in their efforts, because once they will find new routes of attack, your situation becomes hopeless. Respond adequately to requests for military help, and make absolutely sure Egypt prevails in Nubians attacks to distant cities, or you will be their next victim.

Pharaoh only asks you to survive until the new troops arrive. He does not expect you to build a beautiful city, or satisfy many requests, but do not let your Kingdom rating drop too low. Pharaoh will understand, but the Nubians will only interpret it as another opportunity to attack you with all their force, thinking you won't get backup in time, and thinking right. It will be hard to withstand that attack. Make sure the new soldiers have an ample supply of weapons, and if you can, try to keep some money in your treasury that can be used to build the necessary fortifications when they arrive.

Just surviving this mission impossible is a grand task indeed. Show Pharaoh you are worth his trust!

Designer's Advice

Mummy Rock has mummies, of course it has. Mummies are dangerous, not only to your local citizens, but equally so to others. They do not appear to harm the scorpions, and they ignore the work seekers, but otherwise they attack anything that comes in their path, and kill it. You may check the fora for how to deal with mummies, they may well be the miracle you need so badly.

For those who are not inclined to do their own research, here is a short course in mummy handling. Mummies in this map appear at temples. If a mummy encounters a walker, he kills the walker and the walker becomes a mummy too, until there is a fixed maximal number of mummies on the map. After that, mummies just kill walkers who cross their path. Mummies can be killed, but they are very strong. Mummies will follow a road, like other random walkers, and turn at roadblocks. If they stray accross the map they can be attracted to a road close by, for instance by blocking their path. Mummies can walk over water. If you are not familiar with mummies, experiment a bit with them, preferably at 10% game speed, until you get the hang of it.

Competitors are reminded that the normal CBC General Rules apply to this contest. Competitors are also advised to peruse the list of Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features.

Mummy Rock was designed by Joshofet and tested by DillonBlake and Henrium.
This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, April 25th. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
