Story

"You think you are a city builder. We will see!

I give you this challenge: build me a playground for the rich of Rome, and build it quickly. Build me the most luxurious houses, served by an abundance of cultural buildings.

This province I have given you has a great reputation for producing the best oil in the whole of the Roman Empire and I require some from you for my table. This is a peaceful land full of olive trees and a sea swimming with fish. And as a special favor to you, I will subsidize some of your imports so they will be very cheap to you. However, this will have an effect on some of your exports...

'Don't concern yourself too much with the economics of this. Let me take care of that. Although you may feel you are giving them away there will always be a demand for your amphorae of oil. Give oil production your utmost attention, second only to building the highest quality housing. Your people will be happy to live in such luxury, and will not be averse to paying for the privilege.

Do all I desire and you will do well here in the Mediterranean!"

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

Completion Criteria

  • Saved in December AD9. ( No earlier or No later ).
  • Culture 100
  • Favor 90
  • No gifts to Caesar
  • No outstanding requests

All valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:

  1. Number of Grand Villas (highest wins)
  2. Oil in storage (as reported by the Trade Advisor; highest wins)

For example, these four entries would be placed in this order:

  1. 22 Grand Villas, 27 Oil stored
  2. 19 Grand Villas, 342 Oil stored
  3. 14 Grand Villas, 807 Oil stored
  4. 14 Grand Villas, 43 Oil stored

Designer's Notes

There is no minimum requirement for population, peace or prosperity.

Grand Villas need not be fully occupied to count towards the winning criteria.

The main differences between the two difficulty levels are the Easy map has higher starting funds and rescue loan. The requests are also less demanding on Easy difficulty.

This scenario has a Peace rating requirement of 100. This cannot be achieved in the time possible, and is designed to block victory prior to AD 9. You should ignore this requirement and concentrate on improving your winning criteria in the ten years allowed.

Remember to save your game every December. These saved games should not be submitted with your entry, but must be made available should we request them during judging.

Mediterranean was created by Caesar Clifford, and beta tested by Stringbags and JuliaSet. The contest will be supported by Philon, while Caesar Clifford is away.

This contest will close at 11 PM EST (US), on Thursday, February 27th. Please note the date!!!!
