Pharaohs Inspection : The Story
Our great Pharaoh, son of Horus, beloved of Ra, wishes to inspect the
progress of our military bases at Buhen and Heh which we are preparing
for the invasion of Nubia. However, his radiance has expressed a wish
to camp in some luxury here at Toshka rather than in the somewhat squalid
conditions of the military townships.
He has ordered you, his Chancellor of Upper Egypt, to personally see to
it that a city is built here with the finest accommodation available for
his huge entourage, estimated to be in excess of 1500 courtiers and servants.
Pharaoh's traveling group demand accommodation no less than stately manors,
of course.
Your city must impress the influential people within Egypt's ruling circle.
They wish to experience all manner of cultural activity, and to see a
city graced with magnificent statues.
At the same time we must provide our trade allies with sufficient military
support (either weapons, chariots or troops) if they come under attack.
Even so, it is inevitable that trade with our allies will be curtailed
by increased military activity as they find their funds for the purchase
of goods is restricted or disappears completely. And we must be wary at
all times in case the Nubians decide to attack us before we are fully
ready. Make sure the company commanders are aware of what is expected
of them.
Pharaoh knows that you have the necessary skills to complete the task.
Work swiftly but not in haste dear Chancellor... Pharaoh is on his way!
Pharaohs Inspection: Contest Rules
First, competitors are reminded that the normal CBC General Contest Rules
apply to this contest. Competitors are also advised to peruse the list
of Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features.
The game you submit for your entry must be saved in December of the seventh
year (6 AD), when the countdown in the top left corner of the screen shows
one month remaining.
The mission goals (minimum values) to be met in your entry are:
1. Culture Rating 50
2. Prosperity Rating 100
3. Kingdom Rating 80
4. City not in debt
5. Military Strength:
At Easy Difficulty: 4 full forts, 2 infantry and 2 charioteers (64 troops
total).
At Hard Difficulty: 6 full forts, 3 infantry and 3 charioteers (96 troops
total).
Please note that, on the Overseer of Ratings screen, 999 Stately Manors
is shown as a winning requirement. The number of stately manors has been
put in solely to block premature winning when all the other ratings are
achieved. You are not expected to achieve this number of stately manors.
The valid entries will then be ranked according to the following winning
criteria:
1: The highest number of Stately Manors in your city at the time of your
submitted save (as recorded by The Overseer of Ratings). (The Stately
Manors do not have to be fully occupied)
2: The highest number of citizens in the city at the time of your submitted
save
The second criterion is only applicable if the first criterion produces
a tie.
Pharaohs Inspection: Designers' Advice
This is a Cleopatra game; it can only be played with Cleopatra.
Competitors are reminded that the normal CBC General
Rules apply to this contest. Competitors are also advised to peruse
the list of Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features.
The mission lasts for seven years. The game you submit must be saved in
December of the seventh year (6 AD), when the countdown in the top left
corner of the screen shows one month remaining.
You are also required to make an annual save every December. You will
get a message informing you of an increase in the price of granite (which
plays no part in the game) as a reminder to make this save. You do not
have to submit these annual saves with your entry, but should make them
available upon request.
Please note that all opportunities for export trade will cease during
AD3 and AD4.
There are three requests for military assistance in this game. Troop requests
from water-trade cities require troops to be sent by transport ship.
There appears to be an optimum number of troops to meet a troop request
with minimum losses; sending a greater number can result in increased
losses, some experimentation might therefore be advisable.
There are two scheduled invasions in this game.
The Easy and Hard versions of this game are essentially the same. The
start up money is greater at Easy and some of the requests for goods are
slightly lower than at Hard.
