Contest 21: AgadirWelcome to the contest pages for Contest 21: Agadir. This is a Poseidon contest, and should only be played with Poseidon V2.1. You will not be able to play this contest with Zeus V1.x. Use the links below to download the starting positions and the optional audio add-ons: Agadir (Titan Difficulty) After downloading, players should run the executable, and follow the on screen instructions. When prompted, choose to extract the archive to the directory in which Zeus.exe is located (by default C:\Impressions Games\Zeus). Story"It is a golden age for the Atlantean people. Atlantean cities are peaceful and prosperous with an abundance of goods for consumption and trade. But, as always seems to be the case, there is dross amidst the gold. Atlantean cities are divided into 2 rival political factions. One faction wishes to expand Atlantean influence eastward into the Mediterranean, while the other faction favours increased settlement and trade with the lands of the Mayans. Although the Symphonia Ithikos prevents Atlanteans from taking up arms against their brethren, the division is deep and acrimonious. In this atmosphere of tense rivalries, you have been selected by Hippodamus, King of Atlantis, to lead an expedition to found a settlement at Agadir on the western coast of Africa. Reports are that rich deposits of marble can be found there, marble needed to feed Atlantis' insatiable appetite for temples and grand monuments. The land, however, is harsh and unforgiving, mostly desert with scattered oases providing the only relief from the ever-shifting sands. In addition to the instructions from Hippodamus, the gods have set you tasks as well in exchange for their cooperation in your venture. Hera wishes you to build her a sanctuary, and Lord Poseidon himself has commanded that a major shrine be constructed in his honour. Other gods may make demands of you, too. Be sure to appease them. How soon can you complete these tasks and be allowed to return to the
safety and comfort of Atlantis?" RulesAll entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:
Completion criteria marked with an asterisk are also episode goals. In addition to these criteria, players are reminded that the Symphonia Ithikos is in full effect. Raiding or attacking another Atlantean city is not permitted and will result in your entry being disqualified. The valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:
The second winning criterion will only be used to separate entries that are not split by the first winning criterion. The third criterion will only be used to separate entries that have identical first and second winning criteria. Designer's NotesRemember to save your game every December. An increase in the price of black marble, a non-tradeable commodity, is scripted to occur every December as a reminder to make this save. These saved games should not be submitted with your entry, but must be made available should we request them during judging. Players are free to shut off industries as desired or required to ensure that your city meets the labour criteria. The submitted save must be saved early enough in the month to allow the judges to pause the game before the 'Victory Screen' is achieved. Agadir was created by Stavros Megalos, who would like to thank "... the beta testers (Elf, Aditya, and JuliaSet) for their valuable advice, contributions, and other input on this my first effort at a competition map!" The CBC staff would like to extend our thanks to Stavros for providing us with this fine contest map at a time when our designers were constrained by other commitments. This contest will close at 11:00pm EDT on July 31, 2002. Copyright © 2000-2010 CityBuildingContests.net.
