extra Final Deception files for French version

Sound Files

Procedure for extracting files-

The zip file will contain a number of files (this can vary depending on the scenario). Firstly, the file with the extension C4s should be extracted to the directory Saved Games in your C4 installation (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Save Games). The remaining files should be extracted to the directory Scenarios (default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Scenarios). You start the save from the Main Menu in C4, selecting Load Save. The save Final DeceptionEasy or The Final DeceptionHard should be listed. It is not necessary to alter game difficulty.

The file named Sounds.zip should be unzipped into the following directory: CaesarIV\Data\Audio\Voice\Tutorials. These sound files are from Caesar 3. It is not essential to install them unless you wish to. They provide a kind of homage to this contest's origins.

Story:

Caesar Mortus Maximus is now quite simply the most powerful man the world has ever known. His legions have conquered near and far, only the very slightest pockets of resistance remain, and every month more and more of these are being extinguished as well. Only Pergamum and Volubilis have yet to come under Caesar's rule. Not only is he all-powerful, but he is utterly ruthless and some would suggest not exactly sane. Countless of his subjects even slightly opposed to his tyranny have faced the lions or ended in the galleys of ships, or as shark bait.

Yet you remember well when the young Maximus rose through the military ranks to become General of all Roma’s military. You remember the meeting with Maximus and the Emperor, your close friend, around 18 years ago, when you were sent to Carthago, in the North of Africa, to arrange the massive build up of weapons that would culminate in all of Roma’s conquests over the following years. But you also remember the execution of the most loved and respected Emperor Roma had seen, and the grubby manner of the ascension of Maximus, while you were away in Africa. You remember the fierce and completely unexpected fighting with the armies of Pergamum, and how they destroyed your city the moment you were recalled.

Subsequent events have done nothing to endear you to the Emperor. He sent you to the South of Gaul to make some money and provide food to assist the war effort, but then sent his legions to attack you, and Pergamum once again would not leave you alone. Now, back living quietly in Roma, you worry that your status as Roma’s finest Governor and the respect you enjoy throughout Rome, might be seen by Maximus as a threat to him, and you wonder when a knock at the door late at night might come. You have always pledged the utmost allegiance to Caesar Maximus, as you must in order to remain alive. It therefore comes as something of a relief to be informed that Caesar Maximus now wishes you to leave Rome, and re-establish Carthago, a decade after it was burned to the ground by the soldiers of Pergamum.

Mission Briefing:
Caesar Maximus summons you to his war room. Even though you thoroughly despise him, it is not a good idea to lack respect for the most powerful man alive. You are to return to the North of Africa, to Carthago once again in fact. You are to send Caesar weapons and armor, a LOT of weapons and armor. And money as well. Fishing has now been curtailed throughout the empire, something about Maximus not wanting the people eating food that improves their ability to think. Still, the province was never short of farmland, and as you remember was quite bounteous for a desert location. You already look forward to once again standing on the shores of that beautiful huge lake, in the middle of the desert.

Maximus, for the third time in as many mission briefings, next tells you that you will not encounter any military threats. You respectfully point out that this is what he had said last time, and the time before that. Caesar points out that his empire now has no known enemies, and he informs you that he now plans to bring Pergamum, one of the last pockets of resistance, into line. “Pergamum has given us far too much trouble”, he tells you. “They will be so busy dealing with my legions, they won't have time to bother you.

So once again, Caesar is not allowing you full military capability. You only hope that those defenses that you are permitted to have will be up to the task.

Designer's Notes

This mission commences in January 18AD, and has a maximum duration of 8 years. Please save your game each December (a reminder message will appear at the top of the screen early each December).

There are several requests and demands in this mission. Demands must be met. The penalty for failure to meet a demand, including a military demand, is death. All requests are optional, but some contribute to winning criteria.

There are also several invasions. Some can be bought off, and some cannot. Unlike in some C4 scenarios you should expect enemies to continue to attack your city until it is destroyed.

This mission is storyline based, and uses the tutorial boxes in Caesar 4 as used in the tutorial scenarios. The storyline evolves as the mission proceeds.

At certain times you will be informed that your city requires certain structures to be present within a certain time. Defeat will occur if these structures are not present in your city at the relevant deadline.

Elite soldiers are those who have received full training and belong to cohorts that are veterans of two or more battles.

The Final Deception is a remake of The Deception, which was a Caesar 3 contest, and follows on from the storyline of The Deception and its successor, The French Deception (also a Caesar 3 contest). This is the third of the Deception trilogy.

The Final Deception was designed by goonsquad and tested by Aramann, with assistance from her husband Brent. Special thanks to Heironymus for his assistance with scripting, and to Cesar20 for his French translation.

The above is insufficient to acknowledge the contribution of Aramann to this contest. So she has a sand pit named in her honour on the map, not in some far off corner but right in the middle, in recognition of her tireless efforts in testing the many versions this contest has been through during its evolution over an extended period.

Please check again to see that you are playing on the right difficulty leve!!!

"The cost of peace is war"- Weapons Factory Cartpusher

"My armor comes with a lifetime guarantee"- Armor Factory Cartpusher

"Aaaaahhh....listen to them squeal."- Enemy soldier

When forwarding entries to CBC, only the C4s file of the final save is required, not the other files.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, November 4th, 2007. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
