Contest 108: Pink Lake (a Caesar 4 Economic Contest)Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 108: Pink Lake. This
is a Caesar 4 contest, and should only be played with Caesar 4 with the
latest patch. Check the Sierra
site for the latest version. Use the links below to download the starting
positions: Pink Lake (Hard Difficulty) extra Pink Lake files
for French version Procedure for extracting files- The zip file will contain a number of files (this can vary depending
on the scenario). Firstly, the file with the extension C4s should
be extracted to the directory Saved Games in your C4 installation
(Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Save Games). Players should note that game difficulty is pre-set and cannot be altered. The indicated game difficulty may not be the actual game difficulty, due to a bug in C4. In this contest, a condensed version of the story, along with completion and winning criteria, can be found in the Mission Briefing. Story:Patricians are such a fussy lot, and they have a strong dislike not only for moving to new cities, but also for moving to locations that are in any way out of the ordinary. They seem to think such lands are cursed by the gods or some such foolishness. Of course, they can be attracted to almost any location if conditions are to their liking. I want you to establish a trading and resource gathering city at an idyllic island location far from Rome's enemies which shall be called Esperance. Travellers in this district have spoken of a beautiful lake that looks normal from close up, but has a distinct pink hue when viewed from the surrounding hills. Those who have tasted the water from this lake declare it the finest in the Empire, and none have shown any ill effects. The location has fertile lands and is rich enough in resources that you should have little trouble attracting the Patricians you will need to become a truly wealthy city. You have five years to achieve the wealth I expect. During this time I will make a few requests of you. Rome has been running short of one thing and another and I will look to you to supply some of these goods. Don't think you can avoid my requests! Retribution will be swift for any failures in this regard. RulesCompletion Criteria Modification of any game files (including playing the game with such
files not in the correct directory) apart from those which affect graphics
only (eg snow mod). It is also permissible to modify the xml file into
a language other than English provided this is approved by CBC. Use of cheat codes. Use of aquaducts to create an impenetrable barrier to invaders. Other exploits listed in the forum thread are permissible. If in doubt about any matter, please send a Private Message to the contest designer. Designer's NotesThe Pink Lake is not a fictional location, although
its location is a long way from where it is depicted here. It is located
in Western Australia, at a town called Esperance. Norseman, Albany and
Eucla are neighbouring towns (if you can call between 300 and 1000 km
neighbouring- this is the outback we are talking about here.) There are
no invasions in this mission, but there are requests/demands of goods.
Patrician housing is initially disabled. It will only become enabled upon reaching 15 prosperity and 25 culture (easy difficulty) or 25 Prosperity and 35 culture (hard diffficulty). Once enabled, it remains enabled for the remainder of the mission. The contest has a duration of 60 months. When forwarding entries to CBC, only the C4s file of the final save is required, not the other files. This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, May 6th, 2007. Please note the date!!!! This contest has ended.
