Story

Pharaoh has passed away. Thutmose III is the heir to the throne of the kingdom. However, he is too young to handle administrative affairs himself and thus the kingdom is in danger of being run by the less scrupulous of administrators who might take advantage of the situation. Hatshepsut, aunt to Thutmose III, is fully aware of this predicament, but what could a woman do in a world where only men are made kings?

A vision comes to Hatshepsut - the gods themselves appear before her. It is thus decided that it shall be she who shall become the morning and evening star, the grand protectress of all the land and the representative of the will of the Heavens.

Hatshepsut immediately set her plans into motion. She would take direct control of the kingdom. A bold move indeed, but Hatshepsut is no mere "pretender." A wise and competent administrator, as the ruler of Egypt and one recognized by the gods themselves, only Hatshepsut can bring forth a golden age. The land of Egypt shall stand as a monolith to the world, graced by the blessed rays of Ra. The wealth and might of the kingdom can grow only under the hand of an enlightened ruler.

Now take the role of the great Queen Hatshepsut and guide Egypt into a time of prosperity. Declare your right to rule as a mandate from the gods so that none may question your divine authority. Expand the glorious temple complex at Karnak. Construct your mortuary temple at Djeser-Djeseru. Carve out your place in eternity in the Valley of the Kings. Hoard burial provisions for the hereafter. Send an expedition to the fabled land of Ta'Netjer to spread the prestige of the kingdom. Bring trade from exotic lands. Follow the path of the greatest queen of Egyptian history and build a rich, enlightened, and powerful kingdom.

Are you woman enough?

Rules

Completion Criteria:

Hard: All victory conditions indicated in the scenario briefing must reached no later than 7:20 PM of harvest season (Shemu) of 1454 BC
Easy: All victory conditions indicated in the scenario briefing must reached no later than 7:20 PM of harvest season (Shemu) of 1444 BC

The game must be saved prior to reaching victory. Upon loading by the judges victory should be reached without any user interference.

Winning Criteria:

Entries will be ranked upon the following criteria: beauty, prosperity, organisation, creativity and speed.

Beauty refers to the overall visual appearance of the city and the manner in which decorative items, monuments, and statues are placed. Basalt statues are rated higher than sphinxes, which in turn rate higher than cost-free decorative items such as Gardens and Planters. Be creative in the arrangement of these structures!

Prosperity refers to both the city's economic state and the overall wellbeing of the citizens in your city. Several factors contribute to this aspect- the city's food treasury, the player's prestige level, and overall satisfaction and economic stability of the city's populace.

Organisation refers to the overall layout of your city. There is no general rule on what is expected and you can set up your city in any way you see fit, whether it be designating districts or creating symmetrical layouts. However, it should be noted that a city with all types of buildings spread all over the place without some form of basic planning is not considered to be well organised. Imagine you would live in the city.

Speed refers to the time it took you to develop your city AND reach victory. Victory can be reached well before the deadline set in the completion criteria, but it is difficult to simultaneously develop the other four criteria.

Designer's Notes

Upon entry players must indicate whether they want to compete in the Easy or Hard category. Please note that both categories are played at Normal difficulty level. Players may choose to compete at either category by indicating so when submitting. The same player may not compete at both levels. If a player does submit in both categories, only the last entry in Hard category will be considered. In case of doubt entries will also be filed in Hard category.

The first three winning criteria appear to be rather subjective. Obviously the private preferences of the judges will play a role, but we intend to have all entries ranked by a panel of judges. We have tried to specify as much as possible what aspects are relevant. Only the fourth criterion of speed can be measured fully objectively. Do note that it is only one out of four criteria; as all criteria have equal weight in ranking, and an entry just focussing on a very early victory will most probably have to compromise the other four, it consequently will have little chance of winning. Of course it is up to the player to decide which is the most agreeable way to play this scenario, winning need not be the primary goal. Enjoy!

Players are asked to make yearly, or at least regular saves. You may be asked to provide these saves at the end of the contest.

There will be two prizes given for this contest. As our Christmas Celebration, the winners of the easy and hard division will each receive a prize. http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?p=142985#post142985 The Hard level winner will get to choose their Amulet collar from a selection provided at that time. An amulet collar will be selected for the easy level winner.

This Contest was created by Azeem and beta tested by Joshofet, JuliaSet and OregonTaz.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Tuesday, February 13th. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
